Top 5 Wednesday – Books to read before 2019

Welcome back to Top 5 Wednesday.  This is a meme started in November of 2013 and is still going strong! If you’re interested in being a part of it please see the group on Goodreads.

This week’s topic is Books I want to read before 2019.

Oh my goodness, it’s been forever since I’ve done a meme post.  College classes and full-time work don’t leave a lot of time for blogging.  But I find myself with some extra time this morning so I’m going to ignore my research work and write this instead.  Bad Crystal!

dumplin

Dumplin’ – Julie Murphy

For god’s sake, Crystal.  This book has been on your TBR for 2 years now.  I have to read it before the movie comes out on Netflix in December.

If you missed it, the trailer came out today. Have a look-see:

Winter of the witch

The Winter of the Witch – Katherine Arden

Finally got my hands on the ARC for book three in the Winternight Trilogy.  I can’t wait, and as a friend said, this is the perfect winter time, cold weather read.  So excited!

New Suns

New Suns: Original Speculative Fiction by People of Color – Nisi Shawl (ED)

This is an anthology by some new authors and some experienced ones.  I always love speculative fiction and I’m happy to see Tobias Buckell and Rebecca Roanhorse among the writers.  I’m excited for this one!

obelisk gate

The Obelisk Gate – N.K. Jemisin

Ok the truth is, I just read this book early in 2018.  But then I listened to the first book in the series on audiobook again and I have to finish them all again. This is the way the world ends… for the last time.

All Systems Red
I’m much more of a fantasy than a sci-fi person but I’ve heard so many good things about Murderbot. Plus it’s a Tor novella.  I mean enough said right?

So there we go. First Top 5 Wednesday in nearly 6 months, hopefully this will also help me focus as we head into the holiday so I don’t go off track with my TBR …..
Yeah who am I fooling.  Surely not you. 😉

  1. DUMPLIN’!!! ❤ ❤ ❤ I listened to the audiobook two years ago and completely fell in love with Willowdean and her story. It's such a perfect 17-year-old voice. I love it. Also. I am not ashamed to tell you that trailer made me cry. Perfection! I also love The Broken Earth trilogy. They are soooo wonderful! Complex, flawed, challenging– everything I want in sci-fi/fantasy. (I don’t care what anyone says, I still think it’s both genres).

Good luck getting to this books before EOY! I believe in you!
