Welcome back to Top 5 Wednesday. This is a meme started in November of 2013 and is still going strong! If you’re interested in being a part of it please see the group on Goodreads.
This week’s topic is Auto-Buy Science Fiction/Fantasy Authors
When these authors put out a new book then I will buy it no questions asked.
There are quite a few who would qualify for this category. I’ve tried to nail it down, but there will definitely be a long list of honorable mentions at the end.
Brandon Sanderson
Titles: Mistborn, Elantris, The Stormlight Archive, etc…
I mean … not only is he an auto-buy but I will always pre-order a signed copy. Is it any wonder?
Robin Hobb
Titles: The Realm of the Elderlings series, Soldier Son Trilogy
I will buy anything she writes, sight unseen, pre-ordered, signed with a place of honor on my shelf. Need I say more?
Jeff Wheeler
Titles: Muirwood, Harbinger, Kingfountain
This is a completely new auto-buy author for me. I just discovered his books late last year and I’ve sped my way through them. Bring it on. I’m ready for more!
Katherine Arden
Titles: The Bear and the Nightingale, The Girl in the Tower
I’m completely hooked. Take my money, I must have more!
Maria Turtschaninoff
Titles: Maresi, Naondel
This is also a recent find. I’ve ready Maresi twice so far and loved it. Naondel built on the wonderful premise and next year (so far away!) the third book in the series will come out. It already has a place on my shelf.
This was a really hard one to nail down for me. There are so many other fantasy authors who are on my list of auto-buy, but I can only choose 5 for the list. Here are my honorable mentions…
C.N. Holmberg – Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet, Paper Magician series, The Fifth Doll
Patrick Rothfuss – The Kingkiller Chronicle
Naomi Novik – Uprooted, Temeraire
George R. R. Martin – Game of Thrones
Yay, a fellow Hobb fan! My current goal is to collect every (English) edition of the RoTE series! And I’ve never heard of Maria Turtschaninoff (I guess her books were just recently translated?), but that cover is very intriguing.
I have all the RoTE on Kindle but only the most recent one as a physical copy. I need to collect all of them. 🙂
Maresi is very recent, they are excellent!
I’ve recently added Katherine Arden to my list because I think I she seems the type of writer I would like and I’ve read Uprooted recently and absolutely adored it! I need to check out her other books but I’m looking forward to Spinning Silver!
Yes me too. Uprooted was wonderful. Have you tried any of her other books like Temeraire? They are charming
I haven’t actually but I think I’ll add them to my list. My list won’t stop growing!
For some reason I didn’t like Bear and the nightingale but after reading the second novel, I quickly changed my rating for the 1st book and became absolutely obsessed with the series! Katherine Arden is definitely an auto-buy for me as well 🙂
