My last quote is playing hard to get…
It’s a quote from The Handmaids’ Tale by Margaret Atwood. In the book, a young woman is being held captive. There has been a natural disaster (what exactly happened is not clear) that has made most women infertile. Younger women are still able to have children and so they are assigned to prominent families in order to provide children for them. It’s pretty horrific.
The woman in the story is housed in a small room where other women have been kept before her, women who didn’t “work out” so well. In the closet she finds a hidden message left by one of the women before her. “Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.” she later finds out that it means, “Don’t let the bastards grind you down.” It gives her courage to keep fighting for her freedom. We don’t face the same harrowing circumstances, but whatever things we are dealing with in life, we need to remind ourselves to keep working. Don’t lie down and take it. Don’t let the bastards wear you down!
This tag has been a lot of fun! I’m not sure who to tag though. I guess I am tagging anyone who has something to say, and that’s all of you right!
